I think the course data and Justin's course mapping application is the MAJOR intellectual breakthrough and value of this application. Golf GPS, like a music player, is a content (course maps, music mp3s) driven application. The device and it's functionality has some value but is nothing without the content.
Justin has made it possible for the public to develop content, course maps, without special skills. That is a GIANT leap in golf GPS applications. It's like enabling people to make good music with only 10 minutes training.
Justin could probably make a ton of money porting his app to a pay iPhone app and securing the course data.

The main idea behind BBGPSGolf was to keep it free for BlackBerry users. Main reason is because I love BlackBerry. If I did port it over to other platforms I dont think I would make it free, but I think I will keep it free for BlackBerry. :ugeek:
I have had a few ideas to port it over to other platforms but with a full time job, 3 girls under 3 years old and other family activies it makes it hard to find time to work on this.
I would like to port this application over to other platforms it is just a matter of time...
Maybe next winter when life is not as busy... :D

How would you feel about someone else porting this over to another platform, like Android 2.0 for the VZW Moto Droid?

I dont mind. I have made a few API's for the Palm Pre users. If they are going to be charging for the application then I would like to talk about some kind of yearly charge for the data... it would not be huge, and can be changed depending on the number of users they are servicing. (mostly to help with server/bandwidth costs)

I'd be interested in an Android version, though I don't have any programming abilities to be able to help do it. I'm liking the Droid and will probably be getting it in the near future.

If anyone is willing to give me a device I can look into porting it over. :)

Justin, I went back to my BB... so I'll just keep with the BB version :D Btw, I did see in Android's market an app that uses data from your site. Its called "How Far am i?" ( http://howfarami.com/ ) Is that you? or someone else doing it?

Justin, I decided to stick with my BB... the Droid isn't for me... Anyway, while using the droid recently, I saw "How Far Am I" app -> http://howfarami.com/ so it appears you are working on doing something for Android users? Cool. I know its appreciated by those who decide the Droid, or other android based device, is right for them!
